DotClock is a small workshop — three of us, one bench, a long list of stubborn decisions about how a desk clock should behave.
We wanted something on the desk that told us things we'd otherwise check our phone for — the weather, the sunrise, whether tomorrow's commute would be hostile — without becoming another screen demanding attention. A clock is the right size for that: glanceable, ambient, never asking anything back.
European birchwood deepens and warms over the years. The hardwax oil finish lets it keep doing that under your hand. Plastic clamshells age the other way — they get cloudy, they get brittle, they go in the bin. We didn't want to make something that went in the bin.
DotClock is designed and assembled in Italy. The birchwood comes from FSC-certified European forests. The LED panel and ESP32 module are sourced from established industrial suppliers — boring choices, deliberately. We'd rather pick the parts that'll still be repairable in ten years than the latest module out of Shenzhen.
